How do I check to see if I am resistant to the aspirin I am taking?
There is a test called "AspirinWorks" that measures thomboxane in your urine. Your doctor can order this simple urine test through SED Medical Laboratories.

New: Recent scientific evidence supporting the need to check for aspirin resistance
Why would my patient not respond to Aspirin Therapy?
There may be several reasons a patient is not responding as expected.
- Aspirin dosage may be incorrect for the patient.
- Cholesterol levels over 220 mg/dl.
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory compounds taken prior or together with aspirin.
- There may be genetic factors- negative Pla2
- Other pathways of platelet activation exist that are not blocked by aspirin.
How is resistance determined?
An immunoassay test measures levels of urinary 11-dehydrothromboxane B2. Levels of this metabolite, the result of in-vivo platelet activation, are reduced in proportion to aspirin's effectiveness.
How do I order AspirinWorks for my patient?
- Providers already established with SED can simply call for ordering details and specimen preparation.
- New providers need to call for account set up, details and requisition ordering.
